Float Trips

Asheville Adventure Rentals is located at mile marker 72 of the French Broad River. We offer self-guided canoe, solo kayak, tandem kayak, tube, and stand-up paddleboard trips on the ancient French Broad River. Our urban float trips are great for families, groups, or individuals. They vary in length, flowing through several of Asheville’s major attractions, like the Biltmore Estate and the River Arts District. Trips are perfect for novice to experienced paddlers and take place on Class I rapids.

Thanksgiving Hours and OptOutside

We at Asheville Adventure Rentals are happy to hear that REI has chosen to follow our lead this year to remain closed on Black Friday. AAR has never been open Thanksgiving or Black Friday and will continue the tradition through the weekend this year. Asheville Adventure Rentals Thanksgiving Hours:  Wednesday, November 25 ~ Open 10am – 2pm Thursday, November 26 – Monday, November 30 ~ Closed Normal hours resume December 1 As we will be closed on Black Friday, we have started our holiday sales early and they will continue into December: crazy boat deals, drytop sales, books/maps, and much more! Come into the store to check it out! We have always encouraged both employees and customers to spend time with their families outside, especially on a day that’s whole purpose is to give thanks. (Let’s be honest, we all need a day just to digest anyway.) So #optoutside (be it on foot, in a boat, or on a bike), enjoy this beautiful world, and, should you choose to shop on Black Friday, try and support local. Need ideas on fall hiking? The Citizen-Times has some great ideas for where to find the last of the fall colors....

AAR & the 2015 Green Race

AAR is happy to be an official sponsor of the 2015 Green Race, especially on it’s 20th year! We will be driving the racer shuttle, as well as one for the party-goers! Racer shuttles start at 9am at FishTop.  You’ll see us at the race! Then we have party shuttles from the campground starting at 5pm there and 10pm back! For those who all ready know about the race, scroll down for dates/times of race-related events. WHAT IS THE GREEN RACE? The Green River Narrows Race was first organized by Leland Davis in the fall of 1996 with a modest field of 16 racers. It has since grown into the greatest show in all of sports- arguably the most extreme and well known white water creeking race in the USA. Long kayaks, short kayaks, open and closed canoes, hand paddlers, tandems, and all sorts of crazy. There’s over 100 entries all striving for the bragging rights and stained glass that is awarded the winner. Some strive for the even more daunting task of breaking the elusive 4 minute mark. Local legend Pat Keller There’s usually over 1,000 spectators who brave the technical trail into the gorge to view the most spectacular rapid- Gorilla. (please note, all viewers should be very physically fit and prepared for a day in the wilderness- layers, water, leave no trace toilet supplies, etc.) EVENTS GREEN RACE PREPARTY AND PREMIERE of “THE FORCE” When: Thursday, November 5th, 7-11pm Where: Highland Brewing Company-12 Old Charlotte Hwy, Asheville, NC How Much: $10 at the door Join us Thursday, November 5th from 7-11pm at Highland Brewing Company for the premiere of...

Autumn in Asheville

Autumn is my favorite time of year: the fire pit is lit, a hot toddy in my hand, and a crisp breeze blows the red leaves around the yard. It’s also one of the best times to get out on the river because it’s too chilly for tubers (but still warm air temps), the changing leaves are beautiful, and the wildlife is more visible and active. All of our guests on the river today saw osprey, kingfishers, and great blue herons. Fall break is here, so bring the kids! Camping is ideal this time of year, with the lack of bugs, mild daytime temperatures, and cool nights to snuggle up in a sleeping bag. We rent all the camping equipment you need for a pleasant evening outdoors- tents, cook stoves, sleeping bags and pads, hiking backpacks, and more. The outdoors is just better in the autumn. Did you know that all those picturesque waterfalls surrounding Asheville always have more water in them in the fall than in the summer? True story, and just another reason fall rocks. The higher in elevation you go, the earlier the leaves change. So if you don’t see the bright crimsons and oranges that you are looking for today, it’s an easy drive up the Blue Ridge for spectacular views. Asheville’s Tourism Website’s Weekly Foliage Updates are great jumping off points to find the best color....

Rain Rain Here to Stay

If you’ve been anywhere near the internet, you know Hurricane Joaquin may be heading towards Asheville, which has resulted in all the rain we’ve wanted for the last four months coming all at once. When you look at the big black board in the shop, you’ll see our River Level Gauge on the right. This tells folks not only the level of the river, but also if we are running float trips. To check the french Broad’s river level (measured by that USGS tower right in our takeout) check out the French Broad USGS Asheville gauge. Our cutoff for float trips using our equipment is 3,000 cfs, but we are still happy to shuttle you and your personal equipment at any river...
